Remarketing through Google AdWords
Have you ever spotted a company’s advert on different websites? Or seen a completely different advert for the same company? One explanation would be that that particular company’s marketing budget must be enormous! It may well be, but a more likely explanation is that they are utilising Remarketing effectively.
What is Remarketing?
Remarketing was introduced a few years ago by Google and is still widely underutilised. When a customer visits your site, cookies are placed on their computer, giving you subtle information about their online behaviour.
This is where Remarketing comes in.
It allows you to reach people that have previously visited your site, or expressed an interest in your products/services. Does a customer browse your site and then go elsewhere? If remarketed intelligently, your advert can show up to them again, increasing that person’s awareness of your brand and ultimately, making them more likely to purchase.
It has some other wonderful features too; specific segments of the market can be targeted effectively depending on the product or service you’re promoting. Also, customers can be subjected to different adverts promoting your brand in different ways, several times a day or week, which would cost a fortune if marketed traditionally.
Let me give you an example….
Imagine you are in the stiletto industry. You can target females aged between 18-35, so your adverts only appear to relevant customers who are most likely to buy. If these customers visit your website and then leave without a purchase and continue browsing, they could be shown a different advert which redirects them to your website, keeping the brand fresh in their minds.
Interested? Who wouldn’t be?!!
How to set up a Remarketing campaign
Firstly, you’ll need a Google Adwords account, which is free and easy to set up. Once set up, you’ll need to generate an audience, which will take a little bit of time, and then the fun can begin with Remarketing. Unless you’re proficient with your Adwords marketing, it may be a bit baffling but basically, a list is made of visitors to your site. The people on this list then become the targets for your remarketing campaign.
